Letters to the Editor

April 20, 2006

Dear Editor:

It actually sickened me to read yet another article on the State nixing land sales to Collier County as reported in the Naples Daily News on April 13, 2006. Having been a "victim" myself of numerous unkept promises from both Governor Jeb Bush and the DEP, makes me an authority on deception.

You people surely know by now that the state won't be selling any land back to us for affordable housing, fill dirt or anything! You can also kiss those ATV trails and that "promised" comparable land swap goodbye, too. They probably never had any intentions of finding another location - all DEP wanted was the land and we willing turned it over to them. Did you know that the DEP has now gobbled up a whopping 75% of our county lands? But, you have no one to blame but yourselves when you supported both Golden Gate-area County Commissioners Jim Coletta and Tom Henning. They have sold us out - all 55,000 acres in the Southern Golden Gate Estates area to the local "pseudo-environmentalists": the Florida Wildlife Federation, Audubon Society, and the Conservancy of Southwest Florida.

And Tom, you can stop pretending to be looking for a piece of land. You aren't fooling any of us. We all know that the state will not "turn up" any pieces of land, because they have now all been tagged "wetlands" and therefore will never be available.

Due to this paper's word count you can read the "rest of the story" on my website at www.jessehardy.com. Thank you.
